Pilobolus to lead CATA’s Moving Company Ensemble in new partnership!
Community Access to the Arts is thrilled to launch a new partnership with acclaimed dance company Pilobolus to teach and lead The Moving Company, CATA’s mixed-ability dance ensemble. Like CATA, Pilobolus believes that everyone can learn, grow, and find joy through movement. Since September, Pilobolus teaching artists Derion Loman and Emily Kent have been working with CATA dancers to do just that!
With support from CATA staff and faculty, Emily and Derion are leading CATA dancers in crafting a piece for CATA’s Annual Performance.

“This fabulous collaboration reflects an exciting vision that is at the heart of CATA’s strategic plan to deepen opportunities for artists with disabilities,” says Margaret Keller, CATA Executive Director. “Working with Pilobolus has been a powerful experience for our Moving Company dancers, giving them the chance to more fully explore an art form they love. Derion joined CATA as a guest artist last year and the response from our artists was so extraordinary that we started brainstorming ideas fr a deeper connection. We’re thrilled to now have an ongoing partnership with Pilobolus.”

Recently, Pilobolus’s Artistic Director Matt Kent and dancers Connor Chaparro, Ryan Hayes, Isaac Huerta, Darren Robinson, and Jessica Robling dropped in for a special class at CATA. Our dance studio was full of bold ideas, playful exploration, and that CATA spark that left everyone energized, inspired, and grateful to be collaborating.

With Pilobolus and CATA’s shared values of inclusion, creativity, and transformation through connection, this pairing has been an utter joy. We’re honored to be in motion with Pilobolus and we can’t wait to share the work of CATA’s Moving Company at our Annual Performance in May! Save the date for our Gala Performance on May 9 and our Matinee on May 10.
