Program Overview
CATA partners with nine local school districts across the community to bring life-changing arts programs to children and teens in special education classrooms and alternative learning programs. Students tap into their talents and build important skills.
CATA offers dynamic arts workshops for adults with disabilities in a broad range of art forms. Programs take place in the CATA Studios as well as on-site at disability agencies, day-habilitation programs, and residences across our community. In these core programs, people with disabilities tap into their creativity, discover new talents, and build community.
Rooted in a strong respect for elders and their history, CATA’s Art Cart program uses the power of the arts to inspire elders in local nursing homes to share their life stories and talents. CATA Faculty lead group workshops or work one-on-one with elders to share songs, movements, and more.
CATA provides inclusive programs designed for families and caregivers with young children with special needs and their siblings. Children are invited to explore fun art activities while adults connect with each other and build community.
In CATA’s innovative adaptive painting workshops, artists with disabilities use adaptive art-making tools and techniques to bring their creative visions to life.
CATA sets workshop fees intentionally low—typically half the true cost—and fundraises in the community to cover the difference. We never want cost to be a barrier to our programs and no one is turned away because of financial need. CATA offers pay-what-you-will options, as well as a 50% discount on all workshops at our Studio headquarters to EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare card holders as part of the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program.
CATAdirect brings together individuals with disabilities and community volunteers to create beautiful, handcrafted products, which are sold to provide commissions to artists and share CATA’s mission wherever products are sold.
