Dear Friends of CATA,

CATA’s mission is rooted in inclusion. We are committed to amplifying the voices of artists with disabilities and to creating a world where every person is seen, heard, and valued. That is why we cannot be silent. To the black and brown people in our CATA community— our CATA artists, caregivers, family members, supporters— and to our wider Black community: CATA stands in solidarity with you. Black Lives Matter.

We mourn the unjust deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, David McAtee , and the countless other Black lives that have been ended by police brutality and White supremacy.

We know that there is a higher degree of inequality and racial injustice for Black people with disabilities. That is why, through our partnerships with agencies serving people with disabilities, as well as with our cultural partners, we are reflecting on how we can pursue a more just and equal world for CATA artists, and especially for our Black community.

We have a responsibility to take a stand against racism and injustice. There is challenging work ahead for all of us to help make change. We are committed to being part of the solution—to listening to those who have lived experience of racism so we can continue to learn and evolve. And we are committed to taking direct action within our own organization to effect change and create a more equitable world for every person.
