A Window Inside of You highlights the work of artists with disabilities who participate in an adaptive painting program through Community Access to the Arts (CATA).

CATA’s adaptive painting workshops—one of many visual and performing arts programs that CATA provides for artists with disabilities—is inspired by a technique called Artistic Realization Technologies (A.R.T.), originally developed by artist Tim Lefens. Working one-on-one with CATA faculty, the artists use color wheels and a specialized series of yes/no questions to guide their creative decisions. Artists who are not able to manipulate a paintbrush instead use a laser pointer to direct the movement of the brush on the canvas.

This exhibition showcases an extraordinary range of work created through this adaptive program—from bold and exuberant abstract paintings, to meditative reflections on the artists’ experiences and the world around us.

Join us Tuesday, December 6 from 5:00-6:00pm for our opening celebration! Stop by our fun and free gathering to meet the artists and see their incredible work. Free refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

All paintings are available for sale! Buy stunning artwork and support CATA artists. Every work sold provides a commission to the individual artist and supports CATA’s life-changing programs. To purchase artwork, please contact Kara Demler at (917) 523-3776 or [email protected].

This exhibit is made possible thanks to Frames on Wheels, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and other generous supporters.
