ABOUT THESE PAINTINGS:

This grouping of paintings share a striking, moody color palette, rich with twilight blues and purples. In the pieces by Natasha Lorick, Karlie Beliveau, and Hayden Robb, the artists created mysterious, almost ethereal scenes of trees cast in moonlight. In their abstract paintings, artists Ralph Montgomery and Cathy Lemay introduce surprising new colors to the mix—a brilliant yellow peeks out from the corner in Cathy’s painting and shades of turquoise, brown, and red add a prismatic quality to Ralph’s watercolor composition.

Background is painted using watercolor. The bottom left quarter of the paper is painted deep purple with black. Top left- quarter is painted black. The right side of the background is vertically painted gray-blue, except for a small amount of black paint in the top right corner. Two white birch trees with black pastel markings sit vertically in the center of the page. They were created by putting Scotch tape on the paper before the background was painted, and then peeling off the tape once the watercolor background was completed.
