I AM A PART OF ART: CATA ANNUAL Art SHOW

(18/23) LICHTENSTEIN GROUP 18

Gallery wall with four abstract paintings in tones of green, blue, and brown

ABOUT THESE PAINTINGS:

In their expressive still life paintings, artists Carol Johnson and Julie each take a similar subject (Apples in a Blue Bowl and on Table) and run with it, using the original concept as a jumping off point to create works that are full of personality. In her landscape painting, hanging above them, Myrissa Getman used chalk pastel to convey a plaintive rural scene, with grass or tall crops rustling in the breeze and wispy clouds that seem to be slowly rolling by.

Also on display in this grouping is an energetic abstract painting by artist Kim Campbell. To create her work, Kim uses an adaptive painting technique known as “Artistic Realization Technologies” or A.R.T. Using a laser pointer and working closely with a trained assistant (CATA’s faculty artist Pat Hogan), Kim directs the movement of the brush across the canvas, controlling every decision of the creative process.
